Brown and Sons quote grain of all sorts firmer. Wheat—good to prime, os to Ss 6d, Oats scarce and wanted, at from 5s 6d to 6s. Barley, 4s 6d to 5s 3d, according to quality. Flour advanced to Ll3 and Ll3 10s. Pollard and bran, L 6 10s and L 5 10s respectively. Mr A. Mercer reports for the week ending December 4 (retail prices only) : Fresh butter, in \ and 1 lb prints, Is to Is 3d per lb; lump do, Is per lb; powdered and salt butter, Is 2d per lb. Fresh butter still continues very plentiful, and although several dairies have commenced cheese-making, butter is not likely to fall any lower in price this season. Salt butter in kegs, Is 2d per lb. Cheese of good quality is very scarce, .and retailing at Is per lb. Side and rolled bacon, Is per lb • Colonial hams, Is 2d to Is 3d per lb ; English hams, Is 4d to Is 6d. Eggs are in good demand and scarce, and retailing at Is 9d per dozen.
