NORTH DUNEDIN PUBLIC GARDENS.

To the Editor. Sir, —Being a frequent visitor to those gardens mypleasure is often marred bv witnessing the torture children are subjected to by having to walk on the pebbly footpaths in place of having the delight of frolicking on the green sward. If instructions have besn

given to the overseer that no children be allowed to walk on the grass, it would be as well that the public should be informed from whom th-s order has emanated ; as from observation and experience, I submit the grass v. ould be all the better of being trodden on by children’s feet, rather than having a heavy roller drawn over it by prisoners who, of necessity, must walk on the grass. Really, sir, the denizens of this Oily are a patient and long-suffering people to allow themselves and families to he deprived of a pleasure which they pay for-a pleasure and recreation so innocent and health-giving that 1 wonder any Government would attempt at such despotism. Will you, therefore; use your aid in bringing this matter before the couotitu‘ed authorities, with the view of having this grievous wrong redressed ; and sh uid you be the means of securing the families the right to enjoy the luxury‘of an enjoyable walk, you will well deserve the thanks of the community.—lam, &c., Citizen;
