The amount of revenue received at the Ous tom-house on *,oods cleared for consumption this day was LSo7,'4s 2d. The demand for goods of all descriptions has been steady during the week, and a fair amount of business has been done. Messrs M’Landress, Hepburn, and Co, offered the cargo of sugars by the Somerville, by auction on Wednesday. The trade mustered well, but were disinclined to operate, excepting at lower prices than the reserve placed upon the sugar; the whole was therefore withdi awn from sale. This backwardness to purchase may be accounted for through there being two other cargoes of sugar in port, while a third is expected. Buyers are therefore cautious. In spirits there has been no alteration in price. Tobacco is very firm at former quotations. Dined fruits continue iu good demand at steady rates. Currants realise Eleme raisins, 6.^1; sultanas, 7d; and muskatels, Is per lb. Ale and beer command firmer prices. Candles are very cheap, and are being offered freely at lOd per lb. In kerosene, no change in price can be recorded. Hams and bacon are very scarce; for the latter, lid per lb is readily obtained, and hams cannot be bought under Is 2d. New cheese comes in very slowly, and commands 8d per lb. Butter, Is. Other goods unaltered. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports:—The arrivals by the Auckland are mostly all taken up. They arrived at the nick of time, and are a right good class of people. The demand has not abated a bit, and we are ready for such another shipment. Work promises to he constant during the season, and wages are firm. Plenty of room for steady farm servants. Carpenters, wheel-wrights, watch-makers, tailors, and other trades are shoi t-handed. Wages—Smart girls, L 26, L3O, L 35, L4O, L 45, to L 5 2; farm and station hands, L 52, L 53, L6O, and L 6 3; couples, L 75 to LBS; mustering shepherds, 40s per week ; carpenters for country, 10s, 12s, and 13s per day ; rood and quarrymen, 9s, ICs, and 12s per day; dairy hands, 15s and 20s per week ; useful boys and girls, 6s, 7s, to- 10s per week ; gardeners, L 65 and L7O per year; wheelwrights, 12s per day.
