NOTICES OF MAGAZINES.

The London Journal, Bow Bells, and The Young Lady's Journal. J. Rraithwaite, corner of Fleet and High streets ; and P. Mitchell, Fleet street Dunedin, Tbei October number of the ‘London Journal ’ contains numerous tales continued from former months, and several readable articles and essays. Tho'-eupon “ Past well Park” and “Rochester Cathedral, Kent,” are worth reading. The ladies’ aupplem* nt and colored fashion plate are good, and a full-sized pattern for cutting out a “corsage basquine ” is given in the supplement. The month’s manner of ‘Bow Bells’ has the opening chapters of a new story by W. Harrison Ainsworth,” entitled “The Goldsmith’s Wife ” As in most of his other stories which have appeared in this journal, Mr Ainsworth lays the plot in England, and carries ns back to the time when Edward the Fourth was king. Jt seems amusing, and will, no doubt, be interesting, especially to those who like to have an idea of the manners and customs of those times. There are two supplements this month. One contains a beautiful lacework pattern for a “Duchess Marie” apron, and the other designs for an infant’s embroidered robe and a lady’s corsage with basques. The colored fashion plate is good, and tastefully arranged.

‘The Young Ladies’ Journal ’ for October contains many novelties in dress and fashions. The monster supplement. has numerous designs for everything requisite for a lady’s toilet; also, traced patterns for cutting out a sleeveless jacket and “ Anne of Austria” apron. The first eight chapters of a new story, entitled “ Russet and Rose,” are given, and “So Rich and so Poor” is finished this month.
