Commercial.
The amount of revenue received at the Gua tom-house on cleared for consumption this day was L7GG 7s. At the special meeting of the members of the Third New Zealand Building Society last evening the committee brougdit up the report ordered to be prepared by resolution of the last annual meeting. The report stated that after a most careful investigation of the affairs of the society, its position was found to be so good us to warrant its continuance. The committee recommended, therefore, that at the close of the present financial year the society be converted into one on the permanent principal, all the necessary arrangements being made in the interval. The repoi t was unanimously adopted, and the sub-committee were requested to conduct the management of the society until its reconstruction. Messrs Alaclean Brothers report, for week ending 19th November, as follows ; Fat Cattle.—At the weekly market on Wednesday there was a large supply, close on to 200 liea.(i being- yarded, Home of which were very prime, and icalised high prices, hut a considerable proportion were only of medium quality and the prices showed a considerable fall on last week’s rates. Our sales consisted of 50 head on account of Messrs Wallace, Jenkins, and other* We sold two very prime bullocks'at L2O each : ordinary quality bullocks realised from L 0 to Lls, cows L 8 to Llo. We quote really prime beef 40s per 1001b; medium and inferior, 27s Od to 32s (3d. Fat Sheep. About 1.500 of all sorts were penned, 800 of which were taken by the trade, the balance being held over until next week! X hose sold realised—for cross-breds, in wool 17s to 22s each ; shorn, IGs each; merino wethers, in wool, 12s to 17s Cd each. Our sales consisted of 150 wethers at above quotations. W• quote prime cross-bred mutton 4d to 4.1 d per lb ; do merino, to 4d. Fat Calves. About 20 were forwarded which we sold at from 21s to 46s each, according to size and condition. Fat Lambs, —About 200 were penned, which were all taken by the trade at from Gs to 13s each, according to quality. fetore Cattle. On Tuesday, the 17th instant, we held a sale of 240 head at the West Taieri yards, when bullocks, in good condition, realised up to L 8 per head ; cows to L 5; steers and heifers, L 4 to L 4 os. Good well-grown bullocks may be quoted at from LG to L 7 10s per head ; spayed cows, L 3 10s to L 5 ; mixed herds 50s to 60s, according to condition and quality! We will also sell by auction on Thursday next, the 26tb instant, at Crawford’s yards, Palmerston, account of Mr Peter Grant, Mataura, 250 head first-class store cattle, two years old and upwards, all quiet, and in fine thriving condition. Horses.—On Saturday last wo held a sale in the Commercial Yards of hacks and light harness horses, on account of William Grant, which realised from Ll3 to L 27 each. We quote first-class draughts, LGS to LTO ; medium ao, L 35 to LSO. Good hacks and light harness horses. L2O to LGO j medium and inferior, LlO to LI 6, Wool.—Shearing is now becoming pretty' • general in the earlier districts, and several ”■ parcels of the ne\V clip have already reached our stores. We purpose holding our first sale of • the season about the middle of December. W._ have disposed of 43 bales slipe wool dining the -'Week. - Sheepskins. Hides. —We catalogued 58 light weights, which were all disposed of at satisfactory prices. Grain, &c.—The demand for wheat duriu| the week has been better. Prime samples may be quoted at 5s 6d to 5s 9d ; medium, is 6d to is 9d; fowls’-feed, 4s to 4s 3d. Prime malting samples barley, 5s 3d to 5s 6d ; medium, 4s fad to os. Oats still continue very scarce, and may be quoted at from 5s fad to fas for milling samples ; good feed, 5s 3d to 5s fad. On Saturday last we sold 12 tons prime potatoes, ex Otago, from Melbourne, at LS 10s per ton.
