PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting was held in the Town Hall last evening; the Mayor (Mr A. M‘Kinnon) presided, and all the councillors were present. Letters were read from Mr J. .S, Webb, enclosing assessment roll for the year ; from Mr Fail, asking for some earthwork to he done fronting his property in Wickliffe Ter race ; and from Messrs Fmlayjon and Moyle, in re contract for road metal. It was resolved that a special meeting he held on Monday, the 23rd instant, for the purpose of allowing the assessment and fixing the rate. '■ la reply to a circular from his Honey the Superintendent, as Chairman of the Central Board of Health, the Public Works Com mittee reported;—!. As to the sanitary state af the town, that, af’er full examination and onsideration rf the matter, we are of opinion that the town is in a satisfactory condition as to health, cleanliness, and the general eanitarystate of the town. No epi demic or contagious disease highly dangerous to the people, or any indication thereof, appears to exist, unless a very mild form of measles may bn considered so; and no jppdical practitioner having given notice to the Local Board under clause 17 of the Pubhc Health Act, 1572, that any such does exist, we feel every confidence in recommending the Council or the Local Board to furnish the Superintendent, as chairman of the Central Board, with a report in accordance herewith. We would suggest that it should be added that the want of water is felt by the inhabitants in some parts of the town—a want, which, howeve", is likely soon to be remedied by the carrying out the proposed water scheme. The report was adopted. The. Finance Committee’s recommendation —“. That tenders he called for debentures to the amount of not less than L 5 000, bearing interest at 6 per cent., for waterworks construction, tenders to be in by the 14th December proximo, was adopted. It was also rpsblyed that tenders be called for repairing asphalt footpaths. No tenders for erecting the hatha having been received the time was further extended for one week.
Several accounts were passed for payment, after which the Council adjourned.
