The adjourned meeting of the City Council was held yesterday afternoon.

Several gentlemen were nominated as arbitrators for the Council re the widening of .Princes street south, and the ballo resulted in the election of Messrs M. W Hawkins and T. Birch. The following motion, was carried : be paid the su a i f three guineas per sitting, but the amount of remuneration to be paid to each arbitrator shall not exceed 100 guineas.

Twentv-firc applications were received for the post of Assistant Town Clerk. Mr J. M. Jamieson (Ufa of Cargill and M‘Lean’s) was elected to the office.

Mr Fjsh withdrew bis motion re the expenditure of L2O.CQO upon new and perma mnt works in the City during the ensuing twelve months.
