Auckland, October 27. The schooner Pearl, from Fiji, brings a special despatch, announcing that the cession of the islands, was effected, and the British flag "»s to lie hoisted on the 10th October. The ce-sion took place on the 30th September at Nasova, which is situated two miles from Levnka. Maafu, who stands next to the King, hj .s not yet decided as to what course he will adopt, but it is believed that he will offer little or no opposition. Sir HercnUs Robinson, after the ceremony of cession had taken place, requested that the Government of the islands should be carried on (until his return from the Windward Islands, where Maafu resides) in the same manner as previously. Great fears are entertained for the safety of the fore-and-aft schooner Ivanhoe, which left Auckland on August 26, for Levuka. no tidings of her having been heard since. She is owned by Messrs Cruickshank and Co., and insured for LI,OOO, but is valued at L 1,500. October 23. Charles Dyer, convicted of the murder of Eliza, Battersea, is to be executed on Friday morning. Mr Joseph May is returned a member of the Provincial Council. A man named either M'Leod or M'Laren was dangerously hurt this afternoon through a fall of earth, whilst working at a water-race for the Otago Company at Lagoon Terrace, Surface Hill. Dr Pultney, of Naseby, was sent for, but very little hopes of the man’s recovery are entertained.
