Napier, October 22. A boy named Langham has been sent by the R.M. to the Catholic Industrial School, there being no regular reformatory, for four years, for placing a piece of wood on the line of railway here, and other offences. A Philosophical Society has been constituted. Fifty members have joined, and the Superintendent has been elected President, Bishop of Waiapu Vice-president, and Mr W. Colenso Secretary.

Wellington, October 23. There was much sickness among the children by tlie Douglas y and thirty-one deaths, chiefly from measles and whooping cough. There are still twenty cases under treatment.
