HALF-HOLIDAY.

To the Editor. Sir,—ln answer to the inquiry of “ Leo ” under the heading of “ B alf-holiday, ” in 1 ast night’s STAR, I may say that the feeling generally of the members of the Early Closing Association has all along been averse to attempting to get a half-holiday on any other day than Saturday, in consequence ef this, no action has been taken to secure it on Wednesday or Thursday. If “ Leo” would carefully go over the pros and cons of the question, he would come to a like decision. The Association was formed for tfyp express purpose of procuring the Saturday n alf-holi-day. • It appealed to the public years ago to support ife in. this matter. It appeals to the public still, and will unceasingly appeal until its petition enters into the ears of the dullest, and its justice is acknowledged even by the unjust, who, for very weariness, it may be, will rise up and do the right. Such is the purpose of the supporters of this movement. No one denies the justice of their request j almost the universal response is : “ It is right—go on and prosper. 1 ’ And right is might, and will prosper—the powers of light being ita unoeasifcg advocates. It may not be in the days of this generation that trade tfhich has so long been driven mercilessly

over the right, aye, even the very lives, of mankind, will find its true position as the servant” of ali—nob the Grouching, fawning slave of one and the merciless tyrant of another, but the bumble, thankful servant of every one. It may not be in our day this most blessed, wondrous change; but the dawn is even now beginning Co glimmer into the hj arts and brains of many. Knowledge and charity .are going hand in hand amongst mankind. Whssing wherever they go. The day jg coming, 1 sometimes - even, hope and think it is near at hand, when the incessant life-offering to Trade Mammon, the Almighty Dollar or any other idol, will only b6 found (along with many other things) in iimbo. Then, in the words of the Scottish* bard— Let ua pray, that come it may,. As come it will, and »’ thatj When man to man, the world o’-er, Shall brithers be, £ot a’ that. —I am, &0., K--G. Y. S.
