The brigantine Eliza May, having received a thorough overhaul and reolassed, was taken out of Murray’s floating dock, and the s.s. Wanganui taken in to be cleaned. The s.s. Beautiful Star came gdown from Dunedin last night to take on board a number of immigrants by the ship Invercargill, but in striving to go alongside took the ground, where she remained until early this morning, when she got off, and having received her passengers, sailed for Oamaru. This morning the barque Southern Cross, from Hebart Town, was signalled at the Heads, and the Geelong proceeded down and towed her up to her anchorage. She left Hobart Town at 2 p.m. on the 9th, with strong N.W. winds, passed Cape Pillar on the morning of the 10th, had strong N.W. and S.W. winds until the 12th, when she encountered a heavy gale from the southward, with high confused sea, the ship laboring heavily and shipping large quantities of water. During the gale she lost one boat out of the davit^; afterwards had strong S. and W. winds until the 15th, when another gale sprang up from the southward and eastward, during which she was hove to, there being a terrific confused sea. At 4 p.m. she sighted the rfolandera, and passed the Nuggets at 10 p.m. on the 16th, had light W. winds, and was of Cape Saunders at 8 a.m., and reached the Hearts at 10 a.m., and towed up as above. Before leaving the vessel the passengers presented Captain Boon with a testimonial. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
