DEAR FARES.
To the Editor.
Sir, — Knowing your columns are' always open to the benefit of a good cause, I trust you will give your influence in drawing the attention of the various agents for the Victorian steamers to the few simple facts stated in Mr i homas Pavletich's letter in your issue of the 13th inst., in which he speaks df the very high rates of passages between here and Melbourne, and I quite agree with him. As the Christmas season is drawing nigh, there would be many of our townspeople that would embrace the opportunity of a trip over the water, provided that the rates of passage were reduced to ar somewhat reasonable figure. Ido not hesitate to say that if the owners of these steamers would offer to the public a cheap excursion trip daring the Caristmas holidays they would find themselves nothing out of pocket, but on the contrary, i think the increase of traffic would far more than recoup them for the reduction that they might make. By inserting the above, you will greatly oblige A Would be Excursionist.
