The ship Corona was removed from the railway pier this morning by the tug Geelong and anchored in the stream.
Messrs Patrick Henderson and Co.’s ship Otago, for Calcutta, in ballast, was towed to sea by the tug Geelong this morning. The p.s. Samson, having been cleaned and her bottom re-painted, will be taken out of the floating dock this evening, when tbe brigantine Eliza Mary will go in for a thorough overhaul before being re-classed. The Harbor Co.’s s.s. Beautiful Star arrived at 3.30 this morning from Oamaru, went alongside the new jetty to take on board cylinders, and afterwards steamed alongside tbe ship Tweed for transhipments for Oamaru. The brigantine Mary Webstef arrived this morning with a full cargo of ; timber from Kaipara, which port she left on the 27th September. Had fine weather to Kaikoras, thence light baffling winds to arrival at the Heads last night. The s.B. Ladybird arrived in Port Chalmers yesterday at 2.40 p.m. She left the Manukau at 2 p.m. on the 30th, and experienced strong westerly gales till reaching Nelson ; thence to Wellington fine weatner, and from Wellington to Port Chalmers strong S. W. wind and heavy head sea. We thank Mr Dougherty for report and files.
Messrs M‘Meckan, Blackwood’s fine s.s. Gothenburg arrived alongside the railway pier at 8 this morning, from Melbourne, via the Bluff. She left Port Phillip Heads at 5.30 p.m. on the 30th September; passed Wilson’s Promontory at 6 a.m. on the Ist, and Goose Island at 3.30 p.m. the same day; experienced light N.W. and N.N.W. winds for the first three days, and on the 4th very thick weather, with heavy rain; on the sth had strong S. W. winds, with heavy squalls, and passed the Solander at 6.30 p.m.; lay to until daylight off Dog Island, and arrived at the Bluff at 6 a.m. on the 6th ; left for Port Chalmers at 4 p.m., having strong S. W. winds until arriving at the Heads. We thank her purser (Mr John Grotty) for report and files.
The barque Annie Lisle, under the command of Captain Marshall, who was last here as master of the barque Sea Gull, about three years- ago, arrived m harbor yesterday afternoon from Melbourne, which port she left on the 17th September. Up to the 26th had fine weather and moderate westerly winds when about 90 miles from the Solander, was caught by E. and S.E. gales, which delayed her for eight days, during which the weather was very severe, and the ship lay to under the main topsail, the gale having carried away the foresail and part of the bulwarks, and split several sails. On the 3rd the gale abated, and was followed by moderate S.W. wind. The barque held on her course and reached the heads early yesterday morning. She was towed up by tbe Geelong and hauled railway pier this morning to discharge cargo. The Harbor Company’s barque Bobycito, from Newcastle, was towed up by the tug Geelong last evening, and anchored off Deborah Bay. She left Newcastle on the 19th September, on the 21st and succeeding days encountered a perfect hurricane. During the whole of the storm the vessel was kept before it, canvas being reduced to the main topsail, as it was too heavy to heave her to. She sustained but little damage. Afterwards had light, moderate, and variable winds until the 29th, when in long. 161.43 E., lat. 41.20 S., she was again taken in a gale, this time from the S.E., with heavy hailstorms aud high cross sea. The ship was hove to under close-reefed foretopsails and mizzen staysail The wind chopped round to S. by E. on the morning of the 30th, and toe gale moderated, but not before it had washed away part of the port bulwarks, and flooded the entire ship, making the saloon floor a pool of water. Then had favorable weather to arrival at the Heads at 11 a.m, yesterday.
