WASTE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butterworth, Clarke, Reid, and Strode. Messrs Wm. Gregory and James MTntosh applied for the return of survey foes paid on their deferred payment allotment. Referred to the Government. A letter was read from Messrs J. E. and G. Attwood, and a copy of one from the Invercargill District Land Officer, intimating that the Receiver of Land Revenue would not allow for survey fees paid to account of rent. Referred to the Government, Ranger Hughan reported on the bush reserve at Popotunoa, leased to Mr Thomas Pollock. Unless the land cleared is planted and fenced to the satisfaction of the Ranger in six weeks’ time, steps are to be taken to eject the lessee for nonfulfilment of thelterms of his lease. The young trees to be separately fenced against cattle. J Mr James Sutherland applied to purchase 400 acres, section 22, block 6, Table Hill. To be referred to the District Land Officer. Messrs Bathgate and Buchanan, for IMr Charles Mercer, applied to lease section 68,

block 6, Dunedin and East Taieri District, a bush reserve, for grazing purposes. The application was refused. Mr John Michael applied to purchase section 42, block 19, Tuapeka East. The Warden reported that there wss no objection, and the application was granted.

A petition wa* read iu favor of a license to occupy section 57, block, 4, N.E. Harbor and Blueskin District, being granted to Mr Wm, Duncan, for depasturing purposes. Mr Findlater appeared for applicant. Granted, at L 5 per annum. Mr Haggitt, for Mr John Maclean, applied to purchase sections 42, 43. 31. 46, 55, 52, 49. 39, 40. 35, 36, 50, and 32, block 3, Tuapeka West The application was refused, till declared oprn for tale. Mr Gillies, for Mr Thomas Murray, applied to purchase section 25, block 5, Table Hill,- saying it was a small piece of land, and was required only for the purpose of enabling him to fence his property. If the Di tricb Land Officer recommends the sale, to be ad veitised for thirty days as open to the public for purchase. Mr Gillies, for Messrs Fletcher and M'Gillivray, applied for a license under clause 161 to occupy an island in the Wyndham village reserve, for the purposes of a da ry and butchery. To be leased under clause 161, at LI per annum.

Mr John M‘Kellar applied for 640 acres of land at Crookston, in virtue of his preemptive right over run 163 Mr Kirkcaldy, who appeared for applicant, said the application as put in was an error, as Mr M‘Kellar wished to apply for the laud as within a Hundred. The application was refused. Messrs Connell and Moodie,’ for Messrs J. and W. S. M'Farlane, applied for the decision of the Board on tcoir application fop a sawmill lease of block 13, Glenkenich. A petition in favor of tbe granting of the lease from inhabitants of the district was read.— Mr Reid thought the whole of this bush should be reserved.—After discussion, it was decided that the application be received under the usual terms, prior lie* uses excepted, and to be granted on approval of survey.

Mr Reid proposed that all land that had been submitted to auction, but on which the deposit was forfeited and so the sale not completed, shall be declared land of special value, under the 85th section of the Act of 1872, and be advertised immediately for thirty days before it becomes open for sale.
