COASTING VESSELS.
To the Editor.
Slß.—Be kind enough to insert this in your paper, and no doubt the seamen sailing in our fair-sized coasters will be interested in the matter. The larger majority of vessels on this Coast and the Australian Coasts have no boats available in ease of emergency. What I mean is, that they have them lashed on the top of a house on decker in some other difficult place ; whereby if a boat was required with expediti on, it would be some considerable time before one could be launched. Therefore I consider it necessary that they should carry a boat of some description in davits on the quarter or some other place, where they can be got at a moment’s notice. By inserting this in your columns you will greatly oblige a number of seamen.—l am, &c., William H. Willshire. Dunedin, September 25.
