HARBOR BOARD.
The adjourned meeting of the Board was held to-day, the following being the principal business done:
The Finance Committee reported that the Executive would transfer all delegated powers held by the Superintendent, as well as Board and jetty dues, and the unexpended vote for dredging, as far as legal, on condition of keeping the jettieg and approaches at Port Chalmers and Dunedin in repair and properly dredged. The Executive wt-re also prepared to introduce reasonable amendments at the next meeting of the Council. Re Finances—That they had not yet received a definite answer to proposals made to a monetary establishment.
The Committee reported that it was arranged with Mr J. L. Gillies that he should devote his whole time to his duties as secretary except by permission of the Board, which might permit him, should he find any portion of t me unoccupied, to give attention to other pursuits, subject lo a corresponding reduction of sala-y. The Board will not at present require him to give up his political position, unless it be found to interfere with his duties as secretary. The Works Committee reported that it was not desirable to proceed with the survey ot the harbor until the appointment of an engineer on the 6th prox. ; that a new hull to t'io dredge should be constructed of iron ; chat a sub-committee bad been appointed to obttiu tpn<j§rs as well as to ascertain the numbers of puats’Wbessary j and that }t was not. desirable to purchase the Peninsula steamer, but that a new steaming of not less than 35 horse-power should be obtained. The reports were passed, and thh Board adjourned.
