William JPlark, Esq. Carl iStemhoff, Esq. J. F. Jones, Esq. J. C. Matheson, Esq. Solicitors: Messrs Sievwright and Stout. Bankers: The Colonial Bank of New Zealand. Interim Secretary : Mr Richard H. Leary. It will readily be conceded that One of the greatest wants in the principal cities of New Zealand is first-class hotel accommodation, to provide which will involve a large expenditure, beyond the limits of individual capital. This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Donedin a first-class Hotel, similar in character to those existing in the large cities of Europe and America—one which will not only supply existing requirements but will offer special attractions and inducements to tourists snd travellers to visit this part of New Zealand,
It is proposed that the building to erected shall contain 200 Bedrooms, spacious Dining and Drawing Rooms, Library, Private Rooms for families, and all the necessary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kind indicated. An unexceptionable freehold site bmt already been secured at moderate cost. It is estimated that the cost of freehold land and buildings will not exceed L 29.000, and the furniture and fittings L 6.000, thus making the total outlay required about L 35.000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L 20,000 will be sufficient, as the balance can readily bo borrowed at a moderate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Buildings. The profits realised by the leading hotels in London, Paris, Berlin, St, Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon the amount of invested capital. Prom reliable information obtained from competent persons, the promoters of tbe Southern Hotel Company (Limited) are fully persuaded that, under careful management, the profits from this enterprise will provide a very handsome return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived from the hotel business proper, it is estimated that a considerable income will be received in the way of rent for the principal portion of the ground floor, which would be readily let for Shops, &c., and would not be required for hotel purposes. The promoters feel that it is almost super-, fluous to impress upon the citizens of Dunedin the great advantages which would accrue to their city from the successful development of such an enterprise as the one projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be accompanied by an Increase in the vitality of every department of commerce and trade, and would thereby materially augment the prosperity of all classes of the community.
