Leary. It will readily be conceded that one of the greatest wants in the principal cities of New Zealand is first-class hotel accommodation to provide which wi 1 involve a large expend!* ture, beyond the limits of individual capital This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Dunedin a first-class Hotel, simi* lar in character to those existing in the laige cities of Europe and Ameri a —one which will not only supply existing requirements but will offer special attractions and inducements to tourists and travellers to visit this part of New Zealand. It is proposed that the building to be erected shall contain 200 Bedrooms, spacious Dining and Drawing Rooms, Libraiy, Private Rooms for families, and all the necessary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kind indicated. An unexceptionable freehold site has already been secured at moderate cost. It is estimated that the cost of freehold land and buildings will not exceed L 29.000, and the furniture and fittings L 6,600, thus making the total outlay required about 135,000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L2U,000 will be sufficient, as the balance can reidily be borrowed at a moderate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Buildings. The profits realised by the leading hotels m London, Paris, Berlin, St. Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon the amount of invested capital Prom reliable mformationobtainedfrom competent persons, the promoters of the Southern Hotel Com* pany (Limited) are fully persuaded that, under careful management, the profits from this enterprise will provide a very handsome return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived fro hotel business proper, it is estimate! a considerable income will be received way of rent for the principal portion ground floor, which would be readily Shops, &c., and would not be requii hotel purposes. The promoters feel that it is almost super* fluous to impress upon the citizens of Dun* edm the great advantages which would accrue to their city from the successful development of such an enterprise as the one projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be ao* oompauied by an increase in the vitality of every department of commerce and trade, and would thereby materially augment the prosperity of all classes of the community SEWING MACHINES.
