MR CUTHBERTSON AT INVERCARGILL. [By Telegraph.] . . 0 September 18. Mr Cuthbertson addressed hi» constituents on Wednesday evening. Alter detailing the work of the session, he entered into the question of abolition of the Northern Provinces, explaining to his audience that he knew something by experience of the workof Provincial institutions under adverse circumstances, and could judge whether the continuance of impcuni-uis Provinces in the North would be beneficial either to the Colony or to the outlying districts of those Provinces themselves. Ihe panot cry of the Middle Island land fund being in danger would not impose upon this constituency. who could see there was no connection between the two things, tt was a cry raised as a depurate expedient for the purpose of enlisting the sympathies of the South. After Mr Cuthbertson’a address, a motion was proposed thanking him, but regretting his action supporting the Government resolution. The motion met with no support, and an amendment was proposed expressing the cordial confidence of the constitueney in Mr Cuthbertson. Tho amendmeat was carried on a show of hands, with only five dissentients.
