Leary. It will readily be conceded that one of the greatest wants in the principal cities of ew Zealand is first class hotel accommodation, to provide which wi 1 involve a large expenditure, beyond the limits of individual capital This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Dunedin a first-class Hotel, similar m character to those existing in the large cities of Europe and America-one which wU! not only supply existing requirements but will offer special attractions and inducements to tourists and travellers to visit this part of New Zealand.
It is proposed that the building to be erected shall contain 200 Bedrooms, spacious Diuiugand Drawing Rooms, Library, Private Rooms for families, and all the neces ary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kind indicated.
An unexceptionable freehold site has already been secured at moderate cost. It is estimated that the cost of freehold lan-1 and buddings will not exceed L 29 000 and the furniture and fittings L 6.000, thus making the total outlay required about 135,000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L 20.000 will be sufficient, as the balance can readily be borrowed at a mode* rate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Buildings. The profits realised by the leading hotels in London, Paris, Berlin, St. Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon the amount of invested capital Prom reliable information obtained from competent persons, the promoters of the Southern Hotel Company (Limited) are fully persuaded that, under cireful management, the profits from this < pterprise will provide a very handsome return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived from the hotel business proper, it is estimated that a considerable income will be received in the way of rent for the principal portion of the ground floor, which would be readily let for Shops. &c., and would not be required for hotel purposes. 1 he promoters feel that it is almost super* fluous to impress upon the citizens of Dunedin the great advantages which would accrue to their city from the successful development of such an enterprise as tho ono projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be accompanied by an increase in the vitality of evrry department of commerce and trade, and would thereby materially augment theprosperity of all classes of the community.
