Mr William Hay has requested os to place before the public the following correspond* ence, which has passed between himself and the Customs Department, in consequence of the latter having detained a bale of colored printing paper imported by Mr Hay, on the ground that it is probably dutiable : Dunedin, September 10, 1874. The Collector of Customs here has detained bale of double-demy colored printing paper, ex Mairi Babo, as being probably dutiable. Mill weight, 231b per ream. Detention unjustifiably vexatious.
