J. F. Jones, Esq. J. C. Matheson, Esq. Solicitors : Messrs Sievwright and Stent. Bankers j The Colonial Bank of New Zealand. Interim 'kcrktart : Mr Kichard H. Leary. It will readily be conceded that one of the greatest wants in the principal cities of "■ ew Zealand is first class hotel accommodation, to provide which wi 1 involve a large expendi* ture, beyond the limits of individual capital This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Dunedin a first-class Hotel, simi* lar in character to those existing in the large cities of Europe and Ameri a—one which will not only supply existing requirements but wil offer special attractions and induce* meets to tourists and travellers to visit this part of New Zealand. It is proposed that the building to be erected shall contain 200 B**dro'uns, spacious I lining and I 'rawing hcorns, library, Private R<>oms for families, and all the aeoes ary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kiud indicated. An unexceptionable freehold site has already been secured at moderate cost. It is estimated that the cost of freehold land and buildings will not exceed L 29.000, and the furniture and fittings L6,Q00, thus making the total outlay required about 1-35,000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L2U.000 will be sufficient, as the balance can readily be borrowed at a moderate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Buildings. The profits realised by the leading hotels in London, Paris, Berlin, St. Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon tho amount of invested capitaL From reliable information obtained from competent persons, the promoters of the Southern Hotel Company (Limite d) are fully persuaded that, undvr careful management, the profs a front t his enterprise will provide a very handeomo return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived from tho hotel wusiuess proper, it is estimated that a considerable income will be received in th« way of rent for the principal portion of tho ground floor, which would be readily let for Shops. 4c., and would not be inquired for hotel purposes. The promoters feel that it is almost superfluous to impress upon the citiaens of Dunedin the great advantages which would accrue to their city from the successful development of sneb an enterprise as the one projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be accompanied by an increase in the vitality of every department of commerce and 'trader and would thereby materially augment tho prosperity of all classes of the community.
