Leary. It will readily be conceded that one of the greatest wants m the principal cities of \«w Zealand is first class hotel accommodation, to provide which wi 1 involve a large expenditure, beyond the limits of individual capital. This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Dunedin a first-class Hotel, similar, in character to those existing in the large cities of Europe and Ameri a—one which will not only supply existing requirements but wil offer special attractions and inducements to tourists and travellers to visit this part of New Zealand. It is proposed that the building to be erected shall contain 200 B*dro«ms, spacious Dining and Drawing Rooms, Library, Private Rooms for families, and all the neces ary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kind indicated. An unexceptionable freehold site has already been secuivd at moderate o«st. It is estimated that the cost of freehold land and buddings will not exceed L 29 000, and the furniture and fittings L 6.000, thus making the total outlay required about t.35.000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L 20.000 will be sufficient, as the balance can readily be borrowed at a moderate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Huildings, The profits realised by the leading hotels m London, Paris, Berlin, St Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon the amount of invested capital From reliable information obtain*; d from competent persons, the promoters of the Southern Hotel Compnny (Limited) are fully persuaded that, under careful management, the profls from this enterprise will provide a very handsome return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived from the hotel business proper, it is estimated that a considerable income will be received in the way of eot for the principal portion of the ground floor, which would be readily let for Shops. &c., and would not be required for ho-el purposes. The promoters feel that it is almost superfluous to impiess upon the citizens of Dunedm the great advantage which would accrue to their city from the successful development of such an enterprise as the one projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be accompanied by an increase in the vitality of every department ©f commerce and trader and would thereby materially augment the prosperity of all classes of the community.
