RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, August 25. (Before J. Bathgate, Esq., R.M.) Profanity.—Jane Monson was charged with using obscene language within the hearing of persons pissing in Princes street. —Mr Barton addressed the Bench, and said there was an action pending in the Supreme Court, in which Mrs Monson and her child were concerned, and he should, therefore, watch the proceedings in that Court, so that their interests might not suffer. The child was entitled to property worth thousands of pounds, apd he wished to apprise his Worship that there tyere parties interested in persecuting the mother, through which the child had kept in a state of semi-starvation for years. His Worship did not concur with all Mr Barton’s remarks, and from the evidence could p>t do otherwise than find her guilty. He sentenced her to a fine of 20s or three Jays’ imprisonment Harboring Bad Characters.—-Isabella Kidatou, was charged on the information of Sergeant Hanlon, with harboiing reput d thieves.—Defendant not appearing, his Worship sai«J he could not grant a warrant to apprehend on the service of the informant, la this case Hanlon, the informant, proved service. He would recommend the police to avoid anything of the kind. The Act defined “ That the summons should be served ny ? constable or any other person not being the informant.” The case was dismissed, and a fresh summoD| ordered to be issued. Schoolboys in Trouble.—Who. Anderson and George Palsey were charged with using threatening behavior in Great King street They bad been dismissed from the classes of the Caledonian Society for misconduct. Anderson was fined IQs, or a week’s imprisonment, and alsey let off with a paction. Obscene Languor—Hetty Barnes, for using obscene language in a right-of-way off Walker street, was fined 2(js, off Walker street, wag fined 20s, or three day’s imprisonment. On a second charge, of a like nature, she was fined 10s, or three days’. Assault.—John Cooney was charged with assaulting Jane Morrison on August 18. [Left sitting.]
