NOTICES OF BOOKS.
The Young Ladies' Joy,rnal, July number. C. Harrison, London, and Joseph Braithwaite, corner of High and Fleet streets, Dunedin. The various stories commenced in earlier numbers are continued, and, from the cursory glance which we were able to take, they appear quite as interesting as the opening chapters led us to expect. The designs for point-lacc at e very goad, and the patterns for a toilet-set, in Applique embroidery are exceedingly pretty. The gigantic supplement contains a great number of various styles for costumes and head-dresses, as well as full-sized patterns for cutting out a polonaise and jacket for a young lady. The large coloured fashion p'ateia even more elaborate aud more beautifully finished than usual. Wo must not omit to meatien the music, of which there are four pieces ia this number. The song entitled “Do not Repine ” is likely to meet with favor from both young and old; it is a pretty, simple air, and the words are good.
