New Plymouth, August 1. le Wetere sends a letter to Parris. He tells him to “send a boat back to fetch the Europeans that stopped behind, and to stop the Europeans from going there until he writes again, when it will be all right.” The letter is dated July 25, two days before the boat left Mokau. The men. left behind have since returned overland. They report a kind reception by the Natives. *

-r Riverton, August 1. Ihe Mabel Jane has returned from a visit to the Auckland Islands, not being able to land on account of the rough weather, and losing her anchors. She put the cattle intended for there ashore at Stewart’s Island.

Wellington, August 3. It is said a deputation of Nelson members waited on Saturday upon the Minister of Public Works regarding the construction of a railway between Foxhill and the West Coast, and that the result was not satisfactory to the deputation, as the estimated cost is fixed at LB,OOO per mile. The ‘ Times ’ suggests that another line may be formed from Foxhill to Taphouse, and by way of Tnradale into Amur! and Canterbury. A survey of the lino is likely to be made.
