The ‘Ballarat Couriei’ has another story, we hope the last, about the Tichborne case : On making further inquiry in reference to-the man Jackson being Arthur Orton, we have met with some very strong rebutting evidence, and which, if we are to give credence to it. leaves it without a doubt that the claimant now confined at Millbank is the genuine Orton, and that Roger Tichborne will never more be seen on earth. S3ome time ago, when the claimant’s legal advisers were first moving on his behalf in this part of the Colony, a man, whose name has been given to us, offered to provefor a consideration— that he was actually wrecked with the real Koger Tichborne ; that they were together drifting about the sea in an open boat; that the shipwrecked men were driven to such desperate extremity by the pangs of hunger that they cast lots who should die and serve as food for his companions. The lot was cast, Koger Tichborne was the victim, and, as grimly put by the man, who feared to confess to an act of cannibalism, Roger Tichborne “disappeared.” It need scarcely be said that this was not the sort of information sought by the claimant’s agents, and of course the man’s story was pooh-poohed ; but we understand that he is still to be found in the Colony, and eould verify his horrible account ef the fato of the Tichborne heir.
