WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held 10-day ; present—the Chief Commissioner (in the chair,) Messrs Lutterworth, Strode, Clarke, and Bastings. The following business was transacted ; Mr Thos. M. Darton’s application to pur-, chase about two-and-a-half acres in front of section 13, block 1, Tuapeka Bast, was referred for report to the District Land Officer.
Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr Jos. Booth, applied for a license to occupy sections 12 to 15, block 53, Oamaru town, under clause 181. The license was refused, the Superintendent to be asked if there be any objections to the sale. Mr F. S. Canning’s application on behalf of Messrs Roy and Finlayson for a lease for twenty-one years of the reserve adjoining section 15, block 11, Clinton, was refused.
Messrs Stewart and Doughty applied for John Youngson, for a license to occupy about 100 acres of the Tapanui Bush Reserve, under clause 169 (between the applications of Perry and Paterson). It was resolved to defer consideration till the surveys came in. # Qn Messrs Connell and Moodie’a application, for J. F. Kitching, for a sawmill lease of 640 acres in block 4, Glenkenich, and 9, Eankleburn, it was resolved that a deposit of L 320 be made—the survey to be undertaken and to _be completed within six months. The license to be granted on the usual terms, if no objections, after survey. The application of Alex. M.Nab to purchase 320 acres of run 111, under clause 36, was refused.
'lhe application of W. H. Scheib for a seven yenrs license under clause 161, to occupy five acres of run 354 at Deep Creek, Eawarau, to mine for coal, was read, aud a license within the 161st clause, at the rate of L 5 per annum granted. A letter from Mr John Gumming, asking that the receipts which he had obtained for papment of survey fees, should be taken as payment to account of rent oh his deferred payments allotment, W'aipahee, was read. The Board decided that the survey fees, as per regulation, be deducted from the rents due.
Valuation of improvements made by Mr Dunbar on sections 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8, block 5, Waitaki Bridge township, were submitted for approval. The valuations were approved of, and it was resolved that the valuations should be paid by the purchaser if not by the holder.
The application of James Thompson to purchase sections 16 and 17, block 6, Waita-
hnna East, was referred to the District Land Officer to report upon. Mr D. Reid, for Mr Paton, withdrew his former objection.
Mr Begg’s application for the |Hon. R, Campbell, for protection to prospect for coal on the lower gorge of the Quail Burn, ou Benmore si a'ion, was noted.
A draft lease of the Moke Creek Copper Mine was pnseated for consideration. The matter was referred to the Provincial Solicitor, so as to protect the interest of the Board aud' the Government. The terms being equitable in his opinion, according to the spirit or the regulations.
A letter from Warden Carew, relative to the delay in the preparation of exchange leases, was read and noted.
Several applications : to purchase were ap proved of.
Ihe application of Timothy Crowley to exchange hie lease of section 29, blook 2, luapeka east, came up for reconsideration. It was resolved that the (Novernment be asked to reconsider this application, the im provements not having be n done. The following applications to purchase land on goldfields were adjourned Thos. Murray, Joseph Dewes, U. W. Nichols, Hugh Brice, R. Gray, D. Stevenson, G, Stevenson, W. H. Miller, W. Miller, J..hn Edie. W. Osborne, J, Campbell, D. Ross, J. Norman, aad J. Cameron.
Mr Gillies’e application for a rehearing of Mr Young’r application was referred to the ranger for report.
