RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Wednesday, July 29. (Before Captain Thomson and Dr Drysdale, J.’P.s)
Drunk and Disorderly.—W. Pearcy, who had been found by Constable Carter in a state of drunkenness, and about to go afloat, was cautioned and discharged. John Walker, for being a nuisance on the railway platform, aud dr ink, bei g charged by Mr Kolfe, s atiou-master, was fined 20s. Peter Dunn, also for being drunk and incapable, was discharged with a caution. James Gall, alias Badger, pleaded guilty to the same charge. The Bench remarked that a new course would this time be adopted with him, to see what effect it would have, and, with a caution, dismissed him.
Negligence.—Benjamin Morgan, a seaman of the ship Sam Mendel, charged Caph. Hills with neglecting to keep the ship’s forecastle in a water-tight condition. The captain promised to have it put right, and the case was dismissed.
