[By Telegraph.] Wellington, July 14. The Government has staged that tenders will be called in a fortnight for the first section of the Balclutha-Mataura Railway. The <4old Duty Repayment Bill is dis-
allowed ; had. the Otago Government favored it, it would have been allowed. Mr Bradshaw presented a petition from Dunedin, praying that the Distilleries Act should not be amended. Mr Tairoa moves for a Select Committee
to inquire into his claims. The Committee to be the same as that of last year, with the exception of Mr Swanson being substituted for Mr Rolleston. Mr Vogel laid on the table the Ward-Chap-man correspondence. He said the telegrams as received were hot as despatched, but the inaccuracies were very slight. MrJ, L. Gillies moved for the appointment of a Select Committre to inquire into Judge Ward’s telegrams and their publication by the ‘ Daily Times’, said committee to consist of Messrs O Rorke, Fox, bichardson, Atkinson, Sheeban Brandon, T. B. Gillies, Stiidholme. wales, and mover.
