THE SCHOOLBOY’S ENTERTAINMENT.
To the Editor. Sir,—When I wrote the previous letter with this heading, I was under the impression either that a mistake had been made in stating that the pupils had solved questions in the cube root by mental arithmetic, or, if they had to all appearance done so, they had been “ crammed ” for the purpose. However, I am quite satisfied, since Mr Barrett has stated that the thing was genuine. [ can only wish that the sannprocess had been in vogue in my school days: it would have saved me a great amount of trouble. I may say, in answer to the last clause in Mr Barrett’s letter, that I am not £ schoolmaster, although l believe there is a schoolmaster not far from town with the same initials,—l am, &c., W. D. M. Dunedin, July 9.
