THE IMMIGRANTS.
The arrival of the three Home ships—the Caroline, the Carlsburn, and the Hindustan *—should appease, for some time at least, the demand for labor. The barracks will be severely tested, there being over 1 000 souls on the three boats ; whi ! e there is a conside rable number there at present. The authorities say that the Government are, if anything, now pouring in the immigrants too rapidly, and they will have considerable difficulty on making provision for them. There are now on the way the Essex, from London, which port she left on April 16 (and may therefore be hourly looked for) for this port with 495 souls, equal to 492 statute adults ; the Carriek Castle, for the Bluff, from Queenstown, with 293 souls, equal to 243 adults. - The Caroline brings 89 single girls, and these may be engaged on Wednesday next. A great number of the immigrants by this vessel were nominated, and are an orderly-looking lot. The immigrants by the Cartsburn and Hindostan will be brought to town to. morrow.
