July 11. The Government has agreed to give the Californian mail contractor three months* extension of time for the temporary service, at a subsidy according to the scale of the schedule for the permanent service. Mr Hall writes that the last steamer for the permanent service is costmg L 93.000, and will be ready to commence in February, 1875. He could have had ships ready for the service in less time, but did not desire to charter any to ensure the success, the contractors have determined to aim at in the permanent service.
