Sir, —I notice by the newspaper reports that the beys at the above were tested in meutai arithmetic in the cube root. Sir, ia this correct ? I confess it staggered me. Would you, or any of your readers, oblige by giving a few specimens of the questions given. lam sorry l was nt present; had I known that this was to have come off I would nave been there. Were the questions given by the master or by one ot the audience? Please excuse me asking these things ; but i must say L am entirely sceptical in the matter, and think there is some mistake. It may be that lamto be pitied j but L am sorry to say that none of the schoolboys of my acquaintance can lay claim to any such proficiency, Excuse my impertinence.—l am, Ac., W. D. M.
