The Young Ladiet' Journal , May number. ! . Harrison, London. Joseph Braithwaite, corner of Fleet and High streets, Dunedin.
A new story, entitled “ For Life, for Love,” appears this month by the author ef “Tri sie’s Bridal” and other’novels of more than ordinary merit. It is impossible to pronounce an opinion of what it may be from mere introductory matter, but from the interest already surrounding the leading characters it seems likely lo meet with equal favor te preceding tales by the same author. “Stella Redruth,” is continue*!, as well as “Severed Ties,” which has reached its fortyfirst chapter. As usual, there are several articles connected with household management which are worthy of careful reading. The fashion plates and patterns fbr needle and fancy work are mere than usually elaborate. Among them is a brilliantly colored design of birds and flowers for execution in Poeuah painting, an art very much practised a few years ago at Home and capable of realising fine artistic effects. The spring fashions are unusually elegant: the cutt ng out pattern is full-sized for a Duchess polonaise. Each number, of which there are four in this month’s part, contains a lively air, arranged simply and effectively for the piano.

Other stories com meuced in earlier numbers are continued. The fashions and patterns for lace making, crochet,, and needlework are exceedingly good. In the “monster supplement” are diagrams for a lady’s morning robe and a chiid’s pinafore, all numbered so that there cau be uo difficulty iu cutting them from these patterns. The colored fashion plate is finished in the usual careful and elegant manner.
