ATTEMPTED MURDER.

[By Telegraph.] Invercargill, June 15. A deliberate attempt at murder has just been made by a man named Jack Brennan, in the Harp of Erin Hotel, by striking a girl fifteen years old, named Mary Ball, on the head with an adze. Both were passengers by the ship Scimitar. The girl has been taken to the hospital, and is not expected to to live. The wound isiour inches long, and the brains are protruding.
