WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day. Present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Reid, Clark, and Strode.
Ranger Hughan reported as to the trespassing of sub-contractors on Government lands, that ho had lodged an information against Mr Green (connected with Messrs Guthrie and Larnach’s sawmill) for cutting timber on Grown lands. Informations had also been laid against four other men interested in another saw-mill in the same neighborhood, for a similar trespass, Mr ferry asked to be allowed to amend his application for land for sawmill purposes, so as to include the southern part of secblo°k 8, Glenkenich, as it appeared Air Rogers had been granted the section applicant had wanted. Granted, A. letter was read from the * Otago Daily Times and ‘ Witness ’ Company, requesting the Board to hold its meatmgs on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays, as the ‘Witness’ is sent to press early on Thursday mornings, and, consequeutly, reports of the proceedings of the Board are prevented from appearing until the next week’s issue—a great inconvenience to the subscribers. It was agreed to hold b ® ptcetmgs of the Board from this date on Wednesdays, at eleven a m, Mr Hallenstein represented to the Board that the present Timber Regulations are unsmted to the Wakatip district, and requested that they be assimilated to those existing in Southland. After discussion, the application was referred to the Ranger for a full report on the whole subject. ® ra dshaw, for Messrs Kirk. M ftlwame, Johnstone, M‘Kay, Drummond, and Coulter, applied for protection to prospect for copper over 80 acres of run 369 north-west of Roxburgh, as per tracing. A term of six mouths was granted. 1 he N aseby District Laud Officer recommended that all applications for land in the district should be advertised three weeks before the day of hearing. Mr William Finch asked what he should do with certain timber cut under a bush license on his laud and which he wished to rem .ve, as Ranger Valpy had told him not to do anything with it without the Board’s sane ion. Referred to the Ranger, to act according to his discretion. Mr Innia, Forest Ranger at Queenstown, suggested that in surveys of any land adjoining a forest in his district the portions of i.md (always the margin of the bush) cou taming the best timber should be carefully reserved from sale. Approved, to be carried out as far as practicable. The District Land Officer reported on Mr Martin Joyces application to purchase his residence area of one acre of land in the ne.ghborhood of the town of Lawrence Postponed till the wholegof block 19 is surl veyed. Mr Francis Ross applied to purchase secU ( ’, bl ° cl f 19 » Tuapeka East, eleven acies of land formerly held under agricultural lease. The Rase, however, expired in October of last year, and applicant now aoplied under section 73 of the Act The Warden reported favorably, as applicant had been under a misapprehension. Granted. Mr &. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Messrs Guthrie and Larnach, inquired of the Board whether, the Glenkenich leases being now settled, it is prepared to issue sanction of p 86 to applicants for 160 acres at Gatlin’s River, without seeking to impose conditions tor supply of fencing, and the District Recover of Land Revenue to receive rent. rge extent of hush in the district, the fencing tejrms were decided to

A deposit of ■ 80 to be lodged at once, Mr M'Kellar, for Messrs Owen Pierce and James Dawkins, asked a reconsideration of their respective applications for sections 2 and 3, block 1, Cromwell, with a view to having the price reduced. To be sold as land of special value—upset price, 20a per acre, subject to cost of improvements and survey, after the ruuholders consent is obtained and submitted to the Board. Mr A. C. Thomson applied for a quarry lease of section 27, block 6, Shotover. Granted, under clause 161, at Ll per annum. Ihe app ication of Mr Joseph (-lass to purchase section 8, block 2, Tiger Hill, held under agricultural lease, was approved ; the similar application of Mr James Goanor for sections 112 and 92, block 2, Leaning Rook was refused. ° ’ Mr Mouat applied, for Messrs Herbert, Howatt and Co., to be allowed to survey a portion of land not granted to Mr Rogers. A more definite application to be ferwarded.
