The cutter Margaret Scollay sailed last night for Moeraki. The brig Craigellachie was towed to Dunedin this morning. The 8.8. Lady of the Lake sailed last night for the Molyneux. The ship Buckinghamshire commenced to discharge yesterday. The ship City of Tanjore is fast discharging, and commenced to take in ballast yesterday. The ships Trevelyan and Durham are ready for sea, and will both sail this week for Newcastle. The barque Eureka was! brought alongside the railway pier this morning by the p.s. Golden Age. The barque Southern Cross, for Hobart Town, will be ready for sea as soon as she can get a few more tons of ballast. The p.s, Peninsula was engaged this morning transhipping the Dunedin portion of immigrants from the s.s. Atrato to the Quarantine Island. ; The p.s. Comerang, for Lyttelton and intermediate ports, steamed down as far as the Heads last night, and got under way this morning. - After dueharging the telegraph posts at the Graving Dock, the s.s. Phoebe was removed alongside the railway pier, where she discharged her horses., The ship William Davie was not hauled into the Graving Dock yesterday, the tide being too low before thei brig was got out; but she was taken in this morning. The reason of her being docked is on account of her being aground at the Bluff, instead of grounding before getting alonpide the railway pier, as stated in our last issue. William Short, chief engineer of the steamer - Mikado, was committed to the lunatic asylum this afternoon (says the San Francisco ‘ Bulletin’ of the 18th March). For some weeks past he has been morose and taciturn. At times he has been an inmate of the Home of . the inebriates, and since the steamer arrived in port, for the past thirty hours was confined in a straight-jacket. The cause of his confinement in that institution is not apparent, in view of the statement made by the captain of the steamer, that he is of temperate habits. He is a powerful man, probably weighing not less than 3001b. It required the united strength of . several muscular officers to keep him within reasonable bounds of behaviour. SHIPPING TELEGRAM. Auckland, June 9,—The s.s. Hero, Captain Logan, arrived here at seven o’clock. She left Sydney at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, and experienced fine weather, but head winds with a heavy swell, on the trip across. She brings 30 saloon and 35 steerage passengers; also a very heavy cargo.
