VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The following are the principal alterations which it is proposed shall shortly be made in the Volunteer .Regulations for this Colony They will therefore be of great interest to Volunteers, and should be carefully studied by them ; Clause 1. Volunteer Corps are to be divided into two classes : (a.) Frontier Volunteers ; (6 ) Home Volunteers. r 9J a “ se 2 - Frontier Volunteers shall consist o. Volunteer Corps formed in the districts enumerated below : Waikato, Bay of Plenty Poverty Bay, Wairoa, Taranaki, and Patel’ Home Volunteers shall consist of all other Volunteers m the Colony. Clause 6. The Volunteer Force is composed of the fol owing arms Light Horse Volunteers, Mounted Riflemen (to supersede cavalry), Artillery Volunteers, Engineer VotaDteS ' ’'’‘‘"‘“'““l Clause 7 (latter part). Bandsmen may not be returned on the strength of the corps ; but hey may be by special permission allowed to receive capitation allowance, provided they are efficient musicians. Clause 37. Commissioned officers of a Volunteer corps are not to be deemed “efficxent members unless they have passed the examination prescribed for their rank. FOR HOME VOLUNTEERS. That he has attended within -the last twelve (12) months ten (10) monthly inspection parades, each parade having comprised a drill of not less thau one hour’s duration ; and that he has attended five (5) other parades, or company drills, each of them comprising a drill of not less than one hour’s duration. FOR ARTILLERY. , (}.') That he possesses a knowledge of gun drill, and of the general duties of a gunner, and that he has a fair knowledge of company drill and rifle exercise. FOR ENGINEERS. That he has been instructed in the method of throwing up earthworks, and in making gabions and fascines, and that he has a rair knowledge of company drill and rifle exercise. POR NAVAL VOLUNTEERS, , 7 11 hat . h ® Possesses a knowledge of gun Sacral duties of a gunner, and of the management of a boat, either bv sailing or rowing. J POR rifle volunteers. That he possesses a knowledge of squad and company drill, including the manual and platoon exercise. That he has not been absent without leave from more than one (1) Government parade during the past tw.lve (12) months
