The barque Hadda and schooner Friendship were towed up to Dunedin on last night’s tide. The Wallabi left the Bluff at 2.45 p.m. on the 2nd, called at Port Chalmers to discharge Wool, and arrived at Dunedin wharf at 8 p.m. yesterday. The steamers City* of Adelaide, with San Francisco mails, Taranaki, for Northern Ports, and Beautiful Star, for Lyttelton and intermediate ports, sailed last night. The ship Dallam Tower, having completed her loading, was unmoored this morning, and will be removed this evening to the lower anchorage ready to sail for London. The Quarantine Island is once more clear of invalids, the five that were on the Island were removed yesterday, and the yellow flag taken down after flying for four months. The Janet Court was unmoored this morning, In order to be brought alongside the railway pier. The Geelong attempted to bring the ship along, but, on account of the heavy S.W. ■quails, was unequal to the task, and had to get the Golden Age to act as an auxiliary. Yesterday afternoon an unexpected death took place on board the ship James Nicol Fleming, lying at the railway pier. The carpenter of the ship, Edmund Dunlop, was taken ill oh Sunday last, when he was attended to by Dr Drysdale. He seemed better yesterday momiug, but took a turn again for the worse about noon, and expired shortly afterwards. Drs, Drysdale and O’Donoghue pronounced his disease to have been abscess of the liver. The flags of the vessels at the pier were at half-mast to-day. An accident, which fortunately did not result with serious consequences, occurred at the Graving Dock yesterday afternoon. A few men were employed in hoisting an engine out of a punt on to the pier head with one of the eranes, A young man named Fenny was oh the top of the crane, and those below noticed .that the crane was breaking and called to him to jump down. He leaped into the water just As the crane came down with a crash, the engine fortunately falling into the punt, but doing no damage. The'Maogregor is in dock at Sydney and has been officially surveyed. The repairs will be easily effected. The Mongol, which has to be returned on the builder’s hands for some alterations, is taking coal to the East, and will take a cargo of Eastern produce through the Suez GahaL The news of the Mikado’s run to San Francisco is considered very satisfactory. It was known that she was nearly a week behind her time on leaving Kandavu, and that she was very dirty, yet she get to San Francisco within » day of her time, thus showing what can be done with favorable weather.
