RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, June 2. (Before Captain Thom wn and Dr Q’Donoghue, Drunkenness.—Jessie Wood was fiped IQs, or forty-eight hours’. Disobedience Thomas Stanley wap charged by Captain Harland, of the ship Buckinghamshire, with the above offence, Mr Manaford appeared for the defendant, and pleaded not guilty.— Captain Harland said that on the 3rd of April the ship wau crossing the Line, and part of the crew wished to do the “ shaving ” business, which he (witness) told them was not allowed Defendant then came aft, and refused to go forward on being ordered to do so. Witness entered the circumstance in the official logbook, which was signed by the chief officer, and afterwards read the entry to the defendant. Upon the application of Mr Mansford the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
