WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual' weekly meeting of the Poard was held to-day. Present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, !ark, Reid, and Strode, Messrs Conned and Moodie, for Mr James Rogers, applied that their client be declar, d -he purchaser of tea acres of block 10 Glenkenich. .Agreed to, as surveyed, at 20s per acre. The Chief Commissioner stated that he had looked over the case of Mr Logan, and suggested certain alterations in the issues to be submitted to the Attorney-General. Mr Connell, who appeared for Mr l.o_an thought if the issues as altered were submitted, confusion would ensue; and he stated the contentions of Mr Logan. It was decided that the issues as amended should be submitted, and that Mr Logan’s contentions also should be forwarded. Messrs Webb and Fulton, for Messrs Cotton and Henry, applied for reconsideration of their app ioation to purchase section 13a, block 3, Tuapeka East. Again remitted to the Warden, for specific information. Ranger Hughan reported on the application of Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr Wilson, to purchase two inlands near the bridge across the Clutha River, and recommended that it be sold by auction as land of special value.—Mr Clark said he was always opposed to the sale of these islands.—Messrs bastings and Reid thought there could scurcely be any objection to the sale of such a description of land as was now applied for, and it was decided that it be sold by auction as land of special value, at 21s per acre upset price ; survey fees to be added. Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr Archibald Cameron, applied (as discoverer of the land in question) for a pastoral lease of 7,000 acres of depasturing land situated west of the Waiau. To be granted on the usual terms, viz., after assessment, Mr Driver, for Mr Roberts, applied to have the latter’s application for pre-emptive right on run No, 17§ amended.—The Chief Commissioner said that'would he unfair. —Mr Driver thought the last speaker had no right to express an opinion until the application was fully stated. Every runholder had a right to purchase 640 acres, if not actually adjoining his homestead, and Mr Roberts wished to have bis application amended so as to apply to laud which was detached from his homestead. If it were only five yards away, or even an inch, the land would not “ actually adjoin.”—The Chief Commissioner explained that when the application originally catqe before him, he could not accede to it without referring it tq the Board ; it the members were .of opinion that it ;could be received, as amended, he would not oppose it, but, personally, he thought it not quite fair. M-ssrs Gillies and Street, for Mr James Kirkpatrick, applied for a pastoral lease of 40,00.1 acres on the Ron ebini. To he assessed, and then go to auction on the usual terms. The cases of Mr Luka and Sir F. D. Bell came on again, Mr Connell appearing for the former, and Mr G. Cook for the latter. After discussion, it was determined to wait the opinion of the Judge on the case already submitted. ihe Naseby District Land Officer asked instructions as to improvements made on section 2, block 3, Rock and Pillar, which the ballot decided in favor of Mr Joseph Kelly, instead of Mr William Price, owner of the improvement. The award oi the arbitrators appointed tq assess the compensation to bo paid Mr Holmes for the declaration of Traquair Hundred was approved—fixing it at 2s per acre, and 9s fid per chain for fencing. dhe D strict Land Officer reported on the petition of Mr Theodore Russell to purchase a piece of land occupied by him at Pembroke. Township to be surveyed and claims allocated, when the Boat'd will deal with the case. Messrs J. Harding and Co. again wrote relitiye to their establishing a fis!i curing establishment at the West Coast, and the matter wai postponed with a view of having personal explanations. Mr Thomas Stanbrook withdrew from his engagement as auctioneer for the Dnnstan district. The resignation was accepted, and tenders arranged to be called for. Mr John M‘Bride applied to purchase 200 acres of upper land at Upper Wakatipu. Approved, under clause 150, at LI per acre. Mr Driver, for Mr Telford, applied for a special bush licens fqr South Molyncu# bush. Regulations to ba adhered to. ■ ' ' Messrs Gillies and Street again appeared n behalf of Mr Thomas Murray’s application at Deep Stream. To be sold as land of special value, at upset price of 21s per acre, with survey fees added. A petition was received by telegraph from R. T, Elliott, Andrew Pott, and Walter hskdale, settlers, against a mill site being granted on Roger’s Creek, Gleukenich, on tho ground that the water would be polluted by sawdust. Read. With reference to the Moke Creek,Jcopper mining lease Messrs Howorth and Bradshaw wrote that they had not received instructions that the business had been removed out of the hands of the Provincial Solicitor; and that they objected to the hearing by the Board of ex parte statements from other sources.—An animated discussibn ensued; during which it came out that the applicants had “hung up” the matte’- for nine years or more —no progress having been made during that time.
