RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, May 26. (Before Dr O’Donoghue, J.P.) Abusive Language. —J. Sullivan was charged by Peter Mo;:att with uiiug guage towards him calculated to provoke a breach °f the peace. Defendant pleaded not guuty.—-Mr Mansford, who appeared for the plaintiff, stated the case, and called Peter Mouatt, who stated that one ton of flour having been purchised by him from a Mr Do we last Thursday, they conveyed it down* but not being able to carry it home that night, they covered it over with some old bagging not far from defendant’* house. The next day, when they went to remove the flour, defendaut came and charged him with stealing the bagging out of hie house, and used very obscene and. abusive language to him.—Mrs Mouatt and, Emma Stevens gave corroborative evidence.—His Worship adjourned the case for one week, to procure the evidence of Mrs Dowe.
