SUNDAY TRAINS.

To the Editor, Sir, —An article appeared in Monday’s is.vue of the Evening Star, commencing with “A great deal of misdirected energy,” Ac., &c., being put forth, referring to the stoppage of Sunday trains to Port Chalmers, and which concludes by stating It seems to us that Mr Stout’s motion, in favor of giving every Government employe one day in seven, would have met this difficulty; for some perfectly unaccountable reason this motion was not carried ” I would like to ask the writer of the article in question whether he thinks that any other day than Sunday would compensate him for depriving him of the opportunity on that day of meeting his family, attending church, &c., which he could not do on any other day in seven ; his children would then be at school, or engaged with evervone else m the activities of life, and debarred from .ming to church. The day, at its close, would find him more tired and‘jaded than if he had been at his regular employment, from what proved neither a day of work or play. it seems to me that if Mr Stout’s* motion had been curled, t would have been a disgrace to this Christian community ; and it is just because “ I would like to do unto others as I would wish to be done by,” and allow the railway officials to enjoy their -Sabbath as they like—instead of forcing them to spend it for my pleasure—that l = think 3j. Let us enjoy our Sabbath as our day of rest, and jjnot any other day in lieu of it, and Deo G rati as.
