■Wellington, May 18. In the Court of Appeal to-day, in the cases of Stoodley v. Stoodley and Palmer v. Palmer, the decrees for dissolutions of marriage were made absolute. May 19. For the Dunedin and Clutha Railway (Clutha Bridge contract), the tenders received were—Watson Bros., Dunedin (accepted), L 15,052. Declined Brogden and Sons, L 17,738; W. D. Morrison, Dunedin, L 27,117. Auckland, May 18. At the Police Court to-day, Macfarlane called, Mr Beckham, R.M., on the Bench, Mr Rees, Harris’s counsel, objected to on the ground that Macfarlane was closeted with Mr Beckham subsequent to laying the information. He (Mr Rees) said he had reported the whole circumstances to the Government, and was content to abide the result. Mr Beckham said that he bad not seen the information when he had an interview -with Macfarlane. No evidence being called, both the charges were dismissed. __ . Alexandra,- May 18. Ihe Kingites have decided to leave us alone, and have no communication whatever. A permanent aukati has been established in the old place at Orahiri. Purukutu is in charge. Another one has been established at Otiwa, near Kihikihi, with Te Kooti in charge, as numbers of them have maize for sale. ' New Plymouth, May 18. The Council re-opened to day, when Major Atkinson announced that off Friday his Honor the Superintendent sent for him and asked him to assist in making a Government, which he had agreed to, and had accepted the office of Provincial Secretary ; therefore the business of the Council would be conducted by Mr Standish(?) and himself conjointly for the future. Westport, May 18. A trial consignment of Ngakawhau coal, sent per Mary Bannatyne to Melbourne, bought for Fulton’s foundry at LI 7s per ton, is spoken highly of, and more is wanted at an advanced rate. Napier, May 19. 1 Michael Nyell was crushed to death in the pilot boat, between the steamers Paterson and Pretty Jane, i i - Gueymouth, May 19. In the Cobden Police Court yesterday, , Patrick Warren and John Warren, accommo-dation-house keepers at ten mile creek, and r James Fitzgerald, their servant, were charged 4 with cattle stealing. Fifteen witnesses were examined, and the evidence told strongly against the accused, who were committed for • trial. Bail was accepted for the two Warrens, in two sureties of L 250 each, and for Fitzi gerald in two sureties of LIOO each. The case 1 occupied the Court tlntil late in the evening.
