WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held to day. Present—The Chief Commission er, Messrs Bastings, Butter worth. Clarke and Strode. Ranger Valpy reported that Mr Murcott had removed the timber which he had seized in Hampden bush. Instructed to prosecute to the utmost rigor of the law. Ranger Valpy suggested that the timber regulations be amended, to allow of the alteration of the shape of woodcutters’ areas in special eases. Instructed to adhere to the regulations in every case. The form of declaration to be made under clause 54, sub-section 6, of the Otago Waste Lands Act of 1872 was approved. The shapes were approved of plans for preemptive rights by Mr Henry Campbell, run No. 334, sec. 3, block 3, Wanaka (lower); and by Mr E. W. Humphreys, sec. 1, block 5, Strath Taieri. Mr F. Bassett applied to purchase the small island of the Cluthaj above Clutha punt. Refused, Messrs Joseph Harding and Co asked what facilities would be given them for starting a fish-curing establishment on the south-west coast of Otago. To make a specific application for land, or otherwise inform the Board as to their exact wants; Mr Doughty, for Mr J. Smyth, applied for an-acre of land for a mill site, in Maungatua district. Granted. The Superintendent referred to the Board Messrs Thompson and Irving's letter relative to the sale of the lease of section 117, block 2, Leaning Rock, a -coal-mining lease of which they had applied for. The Board adhered to its former resolution. , The opinion was read of the Provincial Solicitor on Mr W. Fraser’s application for pre-emptive right of eighty acres, under the regulations of 1556, on run 325b, to the effect that the Board had no power to grant a right. ° Messrs Connell and Moodie, for the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, applied to have the time extended for payment of purchase money for pre-emptive right oh run 209 till July 1. One month’s time was granted. yir Haworth, for Mr Walter Murray, applied to be allowed to complete his purchase of section 42, Waihetno, and agreed to be guided by the case of Mr Luks. Mr James Pettigrew applied to purchase section 46, block 4, Table Hill, held by him under agricultural lease. To be forwarded to the District Land Officer to report as to whether the land is auriferous, or if there are other objections. Mr James Cameron applied similarly for section 56, block 7, Waitahuna East. Refused, until the conditions of the lease are complied with. The map of Mataura Bridge suburban sections was approved, and the upset price fixed at L 5 per annum. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr George Hay, requested the Board tp authorise the record of Mr Hay’s application;©! June, 1873, in accordance with the measurements submitted when applied for. The Judge’s opinion to be obtained on the question. The same applied, for Mr J. F. B. Luka, to ask the decision of the Board on his application to purchase section 13, Waihemo district. Mr Hay’s application to bo taken as marked on the plan by the Board’s draughtsman on block 3, Glenoamaru. Messrs Gillies and Street, for Messrs White Bros., applied for pre-emptive right, 649 acres, on run 324, The application was merely noted, the land being situated on an hospital reserve.
