The steamers Maori, for Lyttelton, and intermediate ports, and Paterson and Taranaki for the North, sailed last night. The shir) William Davie has- almost finished discharging, and will go into the Graving Dock as soon as the Cezarewitch comes out. The schooner Pioneer arrived this morning from Shag Point, having been unable, on account of the heavy sea, to complete her loading. She has 270 bags of coal for Oamaru. The s.s. Beautiful Star arrived at 5.30 this morning, and steamed alongside the ship Helen Bums to discharge 253 bags of wheat. She left Port Chalmers on Thursday and arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday; discharged and left for her return trip on Monday; arrived at Timaru on Tuesday morning, and left for Port Chalmers at 6 o’clock last night. The N.Z.S.S. Co.’s Ladybird arrived from the North at seven this morning. After landing her passengers at the railway pier, she steamed alongside the Dallam Tower to discharge 1,146 bags of grain. She left the Manukau at 1 p.xn. on the 6th, and made the usual calls at the different Provincial ports. We thank her purser, Mr Dougherty, for report and files. A magisterial inquiry into the circumstances of the stranding of the brigantine Emulous, was held yesterday, before Messrs James Udall and Allan, J.P.’s, and Captain Matheson, Nautical Assessor. The evidence of the master of the Emulous, Angus Mathieson, which was similar to that taken at the preliminary inquiry, reported in our last, and that of Captain Sewell, Harbor Master, having been taken, the Court found that the master had not taken all seamanlike precautions, having ridden with toe short chain, and not having a spring on the cable, and suspended his certificate for six months.—* North Otago Times.’ SHIPPING TELEGRAM.
