RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. PORT CHALMERS.
Monday, May 11. (Before Drs. Drysdale and O’Donosrhue, J.P.’s) Maintenance.—-James Blair Robertson was charged by his wife Jessie Robertson with neglecting to support her and his family.—Jessie Robertson said that she had only received about 30s from the defendant since Christmas, and that the defendant used to come home of a night, but did not get his food because there was none for herself or family. She had two children that were not able to support themselves. They came and took her out of the house. Witness had no place to go to. She had been stopping at a neighbor’s house for two nights, and with her sister for three nights. The defendant handed a letter to the Bench, which was a copy of one which he sent to the complainant, stating he was willing to allow her L 3 per week, that he had let the house for L2 10s per week, and he had now got an appointment as time-keeper at L 4 Is per week and he was going to take another house. Their Worships adjourned the case for a week, and stated that if the offer was not complied with the usual course of law would be taken.
