carry a large caqgo on a light draught of water. Her length over all is 310 ft; beam, 33 ft; depth of i hurricane deck, 32 ft; gross tonnage. 2,200 tons. She is rigged as afore and-aft 'schooner,- Her. engines, which are of 250 horsepower, were Elder and Co, of Glasgow ; the cylinders are 40 inches in diameter, with a 3 feet 3 inch stroke. Her consumption of . ; iel is about 22, tons -per day for a spec.i of ten knots per bout. She has .four boilers, each with four furnaces. Her saloon has a very comfortable appearance, and she has good accommodation for secondclass passengers. The captain’s room is situated over the saloon compartment aft, and there is a large house amidships, which is used for toe officers quarters, donkey-engine house, and gal- : ley. She is well provided with boats,' and there’ is also on board a steam ' The Cyphrenes left Sydney on the 11th of • April with a,bout sixty saloon and sixty second cabin passengers, and arrived at Kandavu after a fine passage of seven days. ’ The Mikado arrived three days afterwards, and, after coaling the Macgregor, both vessels were detaifaed for four days coaling, the Mongol and putting oh board 600 tons of cargo. During her stay at Kandavu the steam launch was got but for the use of - the passengers.- L who, went about; different parts of the island. After transhipping mails and passengers, she left Kandavu: on the 27th, had strong, head winds until arriving at Auckland on the 2nd, at 5 p.m’; left at 6 a.m. on the 3rd' arrived at Napier at 6 a.m. on the sth, having had'a strong southerly gale, with heavy sea: .after two hours stay, sailed for Wellington, and arrived there at 9.25 a. in. on the 6th; left at 11 a.m.,'arrived at Lyttelton at 6 a.m. on the 7th ; left at 10 a.m., arrived off Otago Heads at 3 a.m.; was boarded by Pilot Kelly shortly afterwards, and arrived as above. Her outward mails and- passengers having. been conveyed • down by the 7.30 train, they were transhipped on board, .by. the p.s. Golden Age, and shortly , after the Cyphrenes got under way again, and bleared the Heads for Lyttelton at 10 a.m.
