THE WATER QUESTION.

To the Editor.

Sib, —In reply to Mr Robert Gillies’s letter in last night s Star- that Dr Bake well should request me to state publicly that the diagram exhibited at the Masenic Hall, at the meeting re the Waterworks question, was made by me from what I saw in a drop of water under the microscope, and not from a picture of the wonders to be seen in London water, and to be found in a certain book which shall be nameless, or from a design given me by Dr Bakewell—l now beg to state, for the information of Mr Gillies and the public generally, that the diagram was made from a drop of water as seen by myself under the microscope, and not from a picture of the “wonders, &c.” Had time, permitted,' I could have covered the space with subjects, in some instances two or three deep, so that no portion of white paper could have been seen. I should like also to inform him that I never did, nor intend to take to myself the credit of other people’s work, but attach my name only to such as I am the original delineator of, and ean guarantee to be correct. And, further, I beg to inform Mr Gillies, as the winter evenings are now close upon us, that if he or any ether gentleinau is desirous of lecturing upon the impurities of the Dunedin water as supplied to us, or upon any other subject for the benefit of our public institutions, I am willing to assist by preparing diagrams, as I did in this instance.—l am, _&c., . Thomas George. Dunedin, May 2.
